After Juniors, Thompson signed a Division I scholarship with the University of Alaska Nanooks. He graduated with a 3.85 GPA and was awarded the Scholar Athlete of the Year award in 2013. After leaving the University of Alaska, Steve began coaching at the University of Alaska Anchorage. He received his NSCA (National Strength and Conditioning Association) certifications and spent two seasons as the teams goaltending/strength and conditioning coach.
On top of his college coaching experience, Coach Thompson serves as the ADM Manager of Goaltending as well as the goaltending coach for the Women’s National Team. In 2015, he spent his time working with the Pittsburgh Penguins Goaltending Development Staff which gave him the opportunity to coach many NHL, AHL, and ECHL goaltenders.
